The Museum

Hi and welcome to Josie's Bed & Breakfast and the Pike's Arm Museum!

The community of Pike's Arm was settled in the early 1800's. In 1836, there were 33 people in six families recorded in the area. The Arm offered a small but safe boat harbour with easy access to the nearby fishing grounds. Early family names at Pike's Arm included Stuckey, Cutler and Richards whose descendants still reside there today. Reginald Stuckey, one of those descendants, is heavily involved with his beloved community and helped to found the museum along with some of the other locals. He is a great lover of traditional Newfoundland music and can often be heard playing for anyone, anytime, anywhere! He along with his wife, Josephine, have recently opened their home as a bed and breakfast.

Upon  arrival, you will find yourself heavily immersed in the way of Newfoundland. The house sits atop a sloping hill which overlooks the small harbour and offers a typical yet awesome view of rural Newfoundland.

Accommodations

Josie's Bed & Breakfast offers 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed. A complimentary continental breakfast is included with your stay. One of the most unique features of your stay here is that Reginald, the owner, can play traditional music or you can purchase his CD, "MY LITTLE HOME TOWN".

Pike's Arm Museum

The Pike's Arm Museum has been placed in a century old home and decorated with time-period furniture. Discover the history of Sir William Ford Coaker who, at the age of 16, came to Pike's Arm to manage the store for the McDougall and Templeman Company of St. John's. He became an advocate of the fishery and held the first meeting of the Fishermen's Protective Union.

A must-see is the walking trail which starts from the museum and leads to a breathtaking view of the area. See the Baccalhao Island lighthouse along with nearby Herring Neck and Twillingate from the lookout at the top of the trail. At the base of the trail, see and feed the ducks in their natural habitat and take the children to the nearby Pooh-Land Playground and picnic area.
